Mountain Biking in the Province of Girona

This area has fantastic mountain biking, with single track, river beds, technical descents, gravel trails and easy routes. Routes commence straight from Hotel Mas Pelegri and you can ride all day without covering the same ground. This area is famous for mountain biking in Spain. The volcanoes start directly from the lake and rise up to the west, making for difficult terrain, including a few 1000m descents. To the north and east of the lake is a flatter plain with easier trails. Further to the north west are the Pyrenees offering plenty of thrilling downhill. There are routes for everyone.

In March every year there is also one of Spain's National mountain bike races and this attracts the top Spanish riders, including the women's world cross country champion for the last two years. We can get you entry into the event or just come along to watch. There are also more races in the area, with a local series, so if you want to take part let us know. There is also an off road triathlon that includes swimming from the islands off this area, then mountain biking around a local summit, and then off road running.

Expert mountain bike guides and coaches are available on either an hourly or daily rate. Mountain bike rental is available.

You can choose between self guided trips to luxury fully guided camps.

Luxury Camps

You can also book our luxury camps at any time and for any time length, subject to availability. On our luxury tours we make sure everyone gets to ride at their own level, so there is usually one coach or guide per 1 or 2 athletes, depending on ability. Luxury camps include a Dali & Gaudi tour, a wine tour, a historic tour, amazing scenery tour, a fall colour tour or a completely customised tour for you. Everything is customised to your requirements. Please see our prices page for more information.

On our luxury camps you will enjoy beautiful scenery, while riding on quiet single track and wider trails. Please let us know your level as there are a huge range of different routes available depending on ability. Descend Rocacorba or El Mont on the technical trails, ride the Volcanoes or for the more relaxed rider enjoy the trail around the Banyoles lake or along the river Fluvia to Besalu. The weather is fantastically warm and sunny and you have the Pyrenees, the Garrotxa Volcanic National Park and the Mediterranean all within easy reach. Every ride will be lead by an expert guide, and because our group sizes are small we can tailor the rides to personally fit your fitness level.

This area of Catalonia has an immense variety of artistic, historic and natural wonders, from the Salvador Dali Museum and Castle, to the Greek and Roman cities at Empuries, to the National Parks of Garrotxa and Cap de Creus, to the beautiful historic towns and villages of Besalu, Rupit and Beget (Pyrenees). There is also the local wine growing region were you can enjoy wine tasting or a wine tour en-route. We also offer day trips to Barcelona and other local cities. Distinctively, as our camps are kept small, we can customise your trip to best fit your interests. At certain times of year, there is the option to compete in a local event, please see our Events page. We also arrange day trips to watch the major bike tours, for example the Tour de Catalonia in March, the Tour de France in July and the Vuelta d'Espana in September. Or come and watch the pro MTB cross country race in Banyoles mid March.

In this area there are also many local festivals including the Girona flower festival, the Crespia honey festival, the Besalu Medieval festival, the Calcot festival, the Snail festival, the Cheese festival, the horse festival and the pumpkin festival. So during your stay we will try to include a visit to one of these festivals. If you are especially interested in seeing a particular festival we can tell you the time of year and arrange a customized camp for you.
